HomeSkillet Fest - The Appetizer

image

Our goal for The Appetizer was to put it at an intimate venue where there would be a captive audience. The Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi Community House provided just that setting.

One might say Nick and I were on edge at the start of the show. Between all the coordinating that went on to get the venues setup to all the pre-planning that made the festival happen, we were wondering if it was all going to work out. We felt Wednesday evening was a success at the Highliner Coffee Shop, and we were curious to see if people would come out on a Thursday night and pay to see some great music.

The Appetizer was headlined by Luke Temple and opened by local artists, a few of which create under the HomeSkillet Records label. There is a gap in my photos as I switched to a better camera about half way through the show. We will be creating a photo group on flickr for those who want to see more photos and share there own.

I arrived half way through Chad Lehl’s set. It was the first time I had ever met Chad or heard him perform live. He’s a good singer/songwriter. Check out his MySpace page to hear more of his music.

Bluesman Lee Asnin played next and he was accompanied by two other musicians. I hate to say this, but I missed this set entirely. Our video camera was out at the other venue and I had to run and get it. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures other people will post on flickr. I did get one photo at the beginning of his set.

For a long time I had only heard Jed Delong play unplugged, or at an outdoor venue. Putting him at the Coffee Shop and putting him at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi Community House provided the stage and vibe that suited his music most. He played some new tracks he had written and I am a big fan. HomeSkillet Records is working with Jed to record some tracks for an album.

Kaninau and Luke Temple both played after Jed. An entry will be coming for each of them.
