Konsept

Konsept came in Friday on the 11AM flight to Sitka on Friday. He stopped by the Devilfish gallery (aka HomeSkillet Headquarters), basically long enough for me to get a first impression. It is rare that I find someone who talks as much as myself, but I am pretty sure he did. Konsept has a good vibe about him and it definitely piqued my curiosity to hear his music later that night.

Lucky me however, we used his newest, yet to be finished album, for sound checking. Every track that came up had a story behind it and I only wish we were sitting on a couch somewhere and I could really listen to him. Unfortunately I had to say things like, “that’s dope, will you grab the corner of this mat over here and help me drag it under the tent?” You know what else was cool about Konsept? He said things like, “Sure no problem.”

You know he came to Sitka wearing a fresh outfit. I hated asking him, but he gladly through on boots and helped out with some of the grunt work on Friday afternoon, hours before the fest. Which only made it that much better when he got up on stage later. He even helped with padding the show with a little bit of beatboxing for MC Phonetic.

Phonetic introduced Konsept around 8:00PM on Saturday night and it was nice to finally see him perform music he had obviously put so much heart into. I know he was performing new material, so it was unlikely many of the people in the audience knew it. However, that’s the nice thing about hip-hop fans. If they like it, they like it right away, and if they don’t like it, they won’t vibe with it.

They liked Konsept’s music, and so did I. Somehow I gotta get my hands on his new album once it is released. He’s a cool cat, and always welcome to any show we put on.
