The Main Course

We managed to get all the necessary components of the festival done to kick off the Friday show on time. The headliners for each show were always set in stone, but the acts leading up the headline were a constant juggling of changed schedules for artists and time slots opening up.

The weather was cooperating in the sense that it wasn’t raining. This was as much as could be expected considering the amount of rain that had happened prior to the fest. People slowly trickled in before and during the show. We even had people playing frisbee.

Fortunately for us, Kaninau from Hawaii, came through on more than one occasion. They kicked off the show on Friday and played an hour long set. It was good to see them again and they were more than happy to play. It also gave them a chance to play for those who didn’t make it to the Thursday night show.

Friday was definitely a bigger turnout than Thursday and it was a completely different environment mixed with the beer garden, a merchandise booth, and great food vendors.

After Kaninau came The Muskeg Blues Band. Lee Asnin, who played in this band and a few other during the fest, was the host for this night’s show. Lee is also on the HomeSkillet Records label and has music for download.

Amelia Budd, who has been instrumental in making HomeSkillet Fest happen, played with her band, The Sugar Shakers. These ladies just came back from a Rock Band camp before they played. They really put on a really good show and the crowd loved them.

Little Stone’s Father came up next and they were fun. Sonny Smith’s drummer, Will Waghorn, accompanied LSF during their set and they all had a great time up there. It was fun to see one of our guest artists playing with a local favorite band.

The last local act before the special guests was the Glorious Youth Parade. These guys ALWAYS put on a great show and everyone dances. These guys were a big help on Wednesday night and did all the sound for that show.
